Don't panic! Remember that on average 46,000 other families are moving to another home on any given day in the USA, and if they can do it so can you. Here are a few things to remember on moving day.
WHAT TO HAVE ON HAND
Keep the floor plan of your new home with you for ready reference so you'll know where everything goes as it comes off the moving van.
CHECK YOUR BELONGINGS
Check boxes for external damage, then check the contents. Most movers require a list of damaged items within a certain timeframe for compensation purposes.
PLUG IN LARGE APPLIANCES
Like electronic equipment, such as TV or stereo, before a large piece
of furniture blocks the outlet.
HOOK UP CABLE
Have your cable and phone hook-ups scheduled for the day of your move.
YOUR SURVIVAL KIT
Keys to your new home and anything else you'll need access to. Possibly cash payment for the movers. Basic tools: hammer, screwdriver, nails, masking tape, tape measure, flashlight, lightbulbs. Bathroom tissue, towels and soap. Kitchen towels, sponges, cleaners, snack plates, plastic utensils. Other items: eyeglasses, address book, checkbook, clock, change of clothes, pet food and dishes.
